William Markoe and family papers, 1820-1965.

Correspondence, brochures, booklets, a journal with scattered entries for 1820-1900, a daybook (1856-1867), and other materials relating to Markoe, an Episcopal clergyman, St. Paul (Minn.) real estate developer, and balloonist, who made the first balloon ascent in Minnesota in 1857; and to James Markoe, his grandson. Most of the papers are concentrated in the periods 1849-1857 and 1909-1916.

Captain R.K. Porter, according to records at the Society of California Pioneers, was born on May 1, 1792 in West Boxford, Mass., and died on Aug. 12th, 1884.
